There were only a few of us, but we had fun! We ate teeny tiny pizzas, chased each other with super soakers, sold some stuff (thanks to our great sales woman Ebonee Pitman), and the highlight, spray painting with Mustart. You rock Ivan! Saturday, June 23rd, our final art show for the year in Jersey City. We will be selling the rest of our products as well as spray painting a mural with Mr. Mustart, graffiti artist. Come check us out, support us. All students welcome to participate. Exact location: Provost Street between 2nd Street & Bay Street AND First Street, between 2nd Street and Warren Street. Everyone’s favorite host, Dancin’ Tony, will emcee live music all day, from the likes of Devi, The Ray Bally Band, Microcosms, the Audiobodies and many more. Over 75 of the finest crafters the craft world has to offer (such as: Rockstar Revolution, La Muse Kalliope, Oceanne, the Jersey City Craft Mafia, FilthyFarmGirlNYC, Misty Glassworks, Locust Point Furnishings, InstigatorZine, truly psychic readings by Intuitive Goddess, henna and face painting by Henna by Colleen) will be there with bells on. Delectable food and drinks will be offered by All Kinds of Whoopie, Mamma Marci, El Taqueria Chilango, Vita Pizza, Two Pitas in a Pod, Lizzmonade and the Hamilton Inn Beer Truck. Other spinning plates include: A pop-up art mural teaming up local artists with kids from the Jersey City Urban Arts Program, a Puppy Fashion show by Fierce Pet Fashion & Liberty Humane Society, and a comedy tent featuring 25 comics (hosted by Craig Mahoney). Also, in one corner, WFMU’s dj’s will be spinning and giving away giveaways (yay giveaways! Who doesn’t love giveaways?!?). Speaking of which: The first 100 attendees will receive fun-filled swag bags! The 4th Annual Blowout Bash will go down in history as the biggest one to date for Not Yo Mama’s! During this year’s Annual Blowout Bash, we’ll be donating a portion of our proceeds to the Liberty Humane Society. A few of us, Sierra, Steven, Amina & Ms Marino went after school today to add the finishing touches. I am so proud of my kids! The mural came together & looks awesome! Can't wait to hang our stuff in the windows on Tues.
Ok, not at all an ideal day for painting murals outside, but we're on a tight schedule, so it's gotta get done. The morning group tried to wait the rain out, but by 10am, we decided to just get wet and walk up to Hudson Art Supply. Once we got our tent up we started painting as best we could. There were a few areas rain dripped down the mural, which obviously made the paint run. Oh well, part of the fun & learning experience for the students. Hopefully it doesn't get too messed up over nite. Ms. Marino came back up to JC last nite to lay out the students' character design. We will begin painting Monday morning! We lucked out and had good weather this week for our walking trips. Check out some of the cool art we saw on our walk... |
I love art and can't imagine my life without it! I've been working with students in Jersey City for the past 13 yrs~ doing what I love. My students inspire me, and I hope I return the inspiration back. ~Ms. Marino Archives
